REPORTS TO: Principal/Director of Curriculum and Instruction
JOB GOAL: Provides academic instruction to indentified gifted students as aligned to Arizona state standards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all programmatic responsibilities for the gifted program as outlined in the district’s gifted scope and sequence and in relevant state statutes and administrative code.
- Provides support for identified gifted students; motivating students to maximize their learning potential.
- Provides support for classroom teachers of identified gifted students that emphasize increasing academic achievement of gifted students in the district.
- Reinforces the consistent use of proven, research-based strategies for effective differentiation and instruction of gifted students.
- Supports the development of individualized learning compacts to meet the unique needs of each identified gifted students; gifted individualized learning compacts include input from teachers, parents and students.
- Provides professional development opportunities for instructional staff on effective differentiation strategies and instruction of gifted students.
- Maintains appropriate gifted student records and documentation of program activities.
- Evaluates referred students to determine eligibility for the gifted program.
- Prepares and submits all reports and documentation as directed.
- Engages with grade level or subject area colleagues in giving and receiving feedback on instruction, examining student work, analyzing evidence of instructional effectiveness, and sharing responsibility for student learning.
- Seeks opportunities to share practices and learning with colleagues and to learn from them.
- Maintains relationships with colleagues that are characterized by mutual support, respect, and cooperation.
- Involves families in setting goals and expectations for individual student learning and development.
- Communicates expectations for individual students to families, and works with them to develop and monitor strategies at home to support students in achieving those goals.
- Communicates with families regarding individual student learning and progress.
- Responds fully to families’ concerns about students, and follows up by providing information about progress or changes.
- Maintains relationships with families that are characterized by mutual support.
- Seeks opportunities and accepts leadership roles within the school.

- Contributes to improvement efforts within the school.
- Seeks out and participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities within and outside the school that generally address needs identified through examination of evidence of instructional effectiveness.
- Directs student teachers, instructional associates, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.

- Monitor special system(s), not limited to, including security and fire alarm systems.

- Ten-month, full time, employee pay and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
